Rusticator's first live album marks the end of an era and the introduction of a new phase in the band's career. After the sudden loss of founding member Joe Gumpper in May of 2026, the band was forced to chart a new path forward. That takes time, thought and care. And in the meantime there were gigs to play...
With guest multi-instrumentalist Tom White taking over the fourth spot in the band, Rusticator returned to the 17th century dutch barn at the Mabee Farm in Rotterdam Junction, New York on July 23. The venue is a favorite for the band and their fans, someplace they've played regularly since their earliest shows in the spring of 2013. This show was their first time back in the barn since 2022 and only their third show since losing Joe. With another founding member (Brig McCutcheon) in the engaged and enthusiastic audience, the band went on to play a comfortable and energized set of music.
This album includes the highlights from that night. The music is a survey of original songs from the band's decade plus of releases, along with a rollicking cover of John Anderson's 'Seminole Wind' and Tom White's arrangement of the traditional 'Handsome Molly'. Guest banjoist Bill Flanagan is featured on fan favorites 'My Heart' and 'Hudson Valley Train'.
